Spanning 1,500 acres along the Missouri River, this area was donated to the people of South Dakota in 1984 by Mary and Maud Adams, granddaughters of original homesteader Stephen Searls Adams. They envisioned the area as a place where people, particularly youth, could enjoy the land and learn more about the natural world surrounding them. Mary and Maud wanted to give others a “place for inner renewal.”

Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve features close to 10 miles of limestone trails that wind through prairie, forest and along the riverbank. With over 100 species of birds, a variety of native plants and a number of different animals, visitors are immersed in nature.

Restored historical buildings include: Lamont Country School, Sha/Adams House, Stavenger Lutheran Church and Brusseau Cabin. Tours of the buildings are available through reservation.

The Fourth Street Historic District is a historic district in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. It consists of a concentration of fifteen late-nineteenth-century commercial buildings between Virginia and Iowa Streets that date from 1889 to approximately 1915. Many of the buildings are significant for their elaborate Romanesque Revival architecture. The area is now a local center of restaurants, bars, and specialty shops.

Take a step back into history and encounter unique artifacts and exhibits that help tell the exciting story of aviation and transportation in our lives. Explore a wide variety of displays and exhibits of full size aircraft and surface transportation from bicycles to vintage automobiles, a fire engine, and even a Boeing 727-200! The Mid America Museum of Aviation and Transportation preserves and celebrates the rich aviation and transportation history of the Sioux City area. Spend an hour…spend a whole day… the entire family will find something fascinating, entertaining, unique or educational at the Mid America Museum of Aviation and Transportation!

The museum opened in mid-2010 near the Sioux City Airport and Colonel Bud Day Field. The museum’s mission is to collect, preserve, interpret and exhibit aviation and transportation history. The museum hours are as follows:

Monday – Saturday 10 – 4 (closed on Wednesdays) and Sunday are 12 – 4 (April to September).

Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday only 10 – 4 (October to March).

Morningside University is a private, four-year college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Our beautiful 69-acre campus is located in a safe, residential area in Sioux City, Iowa. Built in 1932 as an inspection boat by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, the Sergeant Floyd River Museum & Welcome Center chronicles the Missouri River’s development as a major shipping route and the key to Sioux City’s success in the early years of its founding. Discover exhibitions in the Lewis & Clark Expedition, the fur trade, Sioux City’s, evolution as a transportation hub and those rivercraft which still ply the waters of the Missouri river. Named “2002 Tourism Attraction of the Year” by the Iowa Division of Tourism and Travel, the Sioux City Art Center houses a three- story glass atrium and five galleries to showcase traveling and permanent collection exhibitions.

Sioux City Community Theatre enhances quality of life by providing opportunities for accessible and lifelong education, volunteerism and entertainment in the performing arts for people of all ages. The community theater has 8 main stage productions per season.

The Sioux City Convention Center is the site of many events throughout the year from large conventions, to small meetings, to banquets and wedding receptions. It is also the site of popular public shows; sport and home shows, craft fairs and more.

Sioux City Explorers baseball has become a summertime tradition. In ten years, the Explorers have posted seven winning seasons, made three playoff trips and owned the best overall record in the league. They play 45 home games at the beautiful Lewis and Clark Park. The Sioux City Farmers Market is available for 6 months out of the year, normally from May – October.  In 2015, the dates are May 6 – October 31.  The Farmers Market is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 8 am until 1 pm in the west parking lots of the Tyson Events Center, located at 401 Gordon Drive.  Off of I-29, take exits 148 or 149.

Mention hockey in Siouxland and you’re talking about Sioux City Musketeers, one of the strongest franchises on the United States Hockey League since the developmental junior league was reorganized in 1980. 3 time Clark Cup Champions (1982, 1986, 2002) and 3x Anderson Cup Champions (1982, 1986, 2017). Home games are played at the Tyson Events Center. Season and general ticket info available through the Musketeers office.

Located in the heart of downtown Sioux City, the Sioux City Public Museum features large, colorful exhibits, interactive displays, and much more. Admission is free. Visitors will discover the Spirit of Sioux City through a lively 12-minute orientation film in the ornate corn palace theatre. A variety of hands-on experiences are available including the award-winning Innovation and The Big Dig, which replicates an active fossil dig site.

Each year the symphony presents a 7-concert classical and pops series, a 3-concert family series, and a wide variety of educational programming throughout the region. The Sioux City Symphony Orchestra calls the historic Orpheum Theatre its home.

The Siouxland Expo Center boasts over 100,000 square feet of versatile exhibit space. We serve as Siouxland’s ideal location to host public exhibitions, trade shows, home and garden shows with up to 400 vendor booths, 4H, farm and tractor shows, and large community events. With banquet space of up 2,900 in the arena and 240 guests in our banquet room, we are sure to accommodate all event capacities. Our venue’s location, directly off Interstate I-29, provides high visibility to our facility. The arena allows for turf to be rolled out to accommodate a full-size soccer or football field. The turf can also be used for many other indoor activities, such as baseball/softball, band, dance, etc. A concession area and locker rooms are also located in the facility. Stone State Park is a state park of Iowa, located in the bluffs and ravines adjacent to the Big Sioux River. The park consists of 1,069 acre in Woodbury and Plymouth Counties near Sioux City, and overlooks the South Dakota-Iowa border. Stone Park is near the northernmost extent of the Loess Hills, and is at the transition from clay bluffs and prairie to sedimentary rock hills and bur oak forest along the Iowa side of the Big Sioux River. A variety of prairie plants can be found on the steep slopes and ridges, including yucca, penstemon, rough blazing star, silky aster, and pasque flower. Wild turkey, white-tailed deer, coyote, and red fox are found in the park. Birdlife includes the turkey vulture, barred owl, rufous-sided (eastern) towhee, and the ovenbird. Exposed bedrock in the park is composed of lignite, shale, sandstone, and limestone, and dates to the Cretaceous period; it is rich in marine fossils. The park contains many miles of hiking and equestrian trails, and is a popular destination for day visitors, overnight campers, mountain bike enthusiasts, and picnickers.

The park is open year-round from 4 am-10:30 pm. The park roads are closed during the winter season. Cabins, camping, and lodge rental information available on the Park’s website, www.iowadnr.gov.

The 33′ stainless steel statue of Jesus is the centerpiece of the Outdoor Cathedral. 53 acres offer a beautiful setting for the 30′ stainless steel statue of Mary, the Trinity gardens and Circle of Life memorial to the Unborn, the St. Joseph Center Museum features a life-size wood carving of the Last Supper. Grounds are open 9 am – 9 pm daily. The St. Joseph Center is open from 10 am until 8 pm Monday thru Saturday and 12 pm  -8 pm on Sunday.

And if you haven’t been to Trinity Heights in a while, the St Joseph Center has undergone a complete renovation in the last year and the life sized wood carving of the Last Supper by Jerry Traufler, has been re-stained and re-varnished and looks like new. It is truly non-denominational and is one of only 4 in the world! Located right here in Sioux City it is a treasure everyone should come to see. We have visitors from all over the United States and various countries around the world that come to see this amazing work of art.

The 10,000 seat events center is the home of the Sioux City Musketeers Hockey team, Sioux City Bandits Indoor Football team and also hosts many concerts, family productions and sporting events throughout the year. It hosts the NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championship in April, and the NAIA Women’s Basketball National Championship in March.

On the riverfront, near the Anderson Dance Pavilion. Commemorating the heroic rescue efforts shown by the Sioux City community after the crash of United Flight 232 in 1989, the statue depicts Colonel Dennis Nielson carrying a child to safety.

The Woodbury County Courthouse is located at 620 Douglas Street in Sioux City, the county seat of Woodbury County, Iowa. It is regarded as “one of the finest Prairie School buildings in the United States” and has been declared a National Historic Landmark for its architecture. It is used for legal proceedings in the county.First courthouseThough Sioux City was made the county seat in 1858, the first permanent Woodbury County courthouse was not finished until 1878. It was designed by Des Moines architect William L. Foster and built by brothers Charles E. Hedges and Daniel T. Hedges for $75,000.Second courthouseIn 1914, the county determined that the courthouse was too small for the city and they decided to build a new one.

The old courthouse was sold and the new one, designed by the Minneapolis architect George Grant Elmslie in collaboration with the Sioux City architect William L. Steele and Elmslie’s partner, William Gray Purcell, was constructed from July 10, 1916 to March 1, 1918 at a cost of $850,000. This building is the current courthouse, located at the southeast corner of Douglas and Seventh Streets. It is a nearly square four story structure, built out of Roman brick, with granite and terra cotta trim elements. It has a 157ft eight-story tower, and features sculptural work by Alfonso Iannelli over its doors. The northern entrance features metal grillwork designed by Elmslie. The interior floors are marble, and the central rotunda features a glass mosaic drinking fountain in one wall. The interior murals were painted by John Norton of Chicago.
