NAIA in Sioux City

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., is a governing body of athletics programs that are dedicated to character-driven intercollegiate athletics.  The NAIA sponsors 23 National Championships across the United States with more than 60,000 student-athletes.  Two of those National Championships are in SIOUX CITY! 

NAIA Women’s DII Basketball Championship:


In March of each year, Sioux City sees a boost in tourism when 32 women’s college basketball teams flood into Sioux City’s Tyson Events Center from all over the country in hopes of winning the NAIA Championship!  Sioux City has hosted the Women’s Division II National Basketball Tournament since 1998! NAIA Basketball brings in about $14 million to the local economy.  The cost for the city to host the tournament is about $340,000 to produce the six day national championship event.  Attendance for the week reaches about 35,000 people.

2018’s Tournament will be: March 7th – 13th




NAIA Volleyball Championship: _dh19628

NAIA Volleyball first called Sioux City home in 2008 with 24 teams coming here in hopes of winning a National Title!  Volleyball is a five day tournament held the week after Thanksgiving each year with an average attendance around 18,000.  The economic impact is around $7 million, with the city’s cost around $180,000.  The 2016 tournament saw record numbers in attendance when the tournament grew from 24 teams to 32 teams.  The economic impact of the tournament on the community has also gone up.

2017’s Tournament will be: November 28th – December 2nd
